A group of protesters were arrested for blocking the road in front of a Coca-Cola truck during the Pride in London parade. The protesters sat in the middle of the road, causing the parade to temporarily stop. After about 16 minutes, the police arrested seven protesters for public nuisance offenses, and the parade resumed shortly after. A video posted online showed officers removing the protesters from the road.
The protesters, associated with an organization called Just Stop Oil, had previously warned that they would take action to urge the event organizers to ban floats sponsored by companies they deemed "high-polluting." They also called for a condemnation of new oil, gas, and coal. According to a witness, the activists disrupted the enjoyment of thousands of people by running out in front of the Coca-Cola truck. The witness mentioned that there were around eight protesters and they seemed to be seeking attention.
In a statement, members of the LGBT+ community within the organization expressed their embarrassment over partnerships between Pride events and industries they considered harmful. They claimed that LGBT+ individuals were among the most affected by climate change and its social consequences. The statement warned that if Pride in London did not take steps to protect the community, further disruptions and escalations could occur.
Just Stop Oil emphasized that Pride originated from protest and criticized industries and banks for using the event to improve their public image while contributing to social collapse. They urged the LGBTQ+ community to join their protest and boycott in order to ensure the safety of LGBTQ+ individuals everywhere.
