A 26-year-old Indian student studying molecular and developmental biology for his Ph.D. at an Ohio university in the United States was shot and killed while sitting in his car. Aaditya Adlakha, who was in his fourth year of studies at the University of Cincinnati Medical School, was shot on November 9 and passed away two days later.

Adlakha was discovered inside his car with multiple gunshot wounds after it crashed into a wall. He was taken to UC Medical Center in critical condition but sadly did not survive.

Reports mention that the police were alerted about gunfire in the area around 6:20 am on November 9 through ShotSpotter, a gunfire detection system. Drivers passing by also called 911 after noticing a vehicle with bullet holes and a person who had been shot inside.

When the police arrived, they found Adlakha in the vehicle, which had at least three bullet holes on the driver's side window. The car was located on the upper deck of the Western Hills Viaduct.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, according to local media reports.

Adlakha's untimely death was described as sudden, tragic, and senseless by the medical school, which conveyed its condolences to his family and friends.

His academic achievements and character were praised by the Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Andrew Filak. Adlakha was remembered as a beloved, kind, intelligent, and humorous individual whose research was highly regarded.

Originally from Delhi, Adlakha came to Cincinnati to further his studies in medicine. He completed his bachelor's degree in Zoology in 2018 from Ramjas College at the University of Delhi and obtained his master's degree in physiology in 2020 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.

The medical school expressed deep condolences to Adlakha's family and everyone who knew him
