Overview of ISRO's Chandrayaan Mission India has previously undertaken two lunar missions. The first Chandrayaan mission was launched on October 22, 2008, and was notable for the discovery of water on the moon, leading to further important discoveries. The second mission, Chandrayaan-2, was launched on July 22, 2019. Although the lander successfully reached the lunar orbit, it, unfortunately, lost communication and crashed just 2.1 km above the moon's surface.
With the lessons learned from past failures, ISRO has developed Chandrayaan-3, aiming for a successful space mission this time.
