Gaganyaan Mission in 2025, Indian Space Station by 2035: PMO

India's Gaganyaan mission is set to take off in 2025, with the Indian Space Station expected to be established by 2035, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The PMO revealed this information during a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the progress of India's Gaganyaan mission.

During the meeting, the Department of Space provided a comprehensive overview of the Gaganyaan Mission, highlighting the development of various technologies, including human-rated launch vehicles and system qualifications. Approximately 20 significant tests, including three uncrewed missions of the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3), are planned. The first demonstration flight of the Crew Escape System Test Vehicle is scheduled for October 21, 2025. The meeting confirmed that the mission is on track for a 2025 launch.

Additionally, the PMO statement announced that the Prime Minister has directed India to pursue ambitious goals, including the establishment of the "Bharatiya Antariksha Station" (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and the first Indian lunar mission by 2040. To achieve these objectives, the Department of Space will create a roadmap for moon exploration, which will involve a series of Chandrayaan missions, the development of a Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), the construction of a new launch pad, and the establishment of human-centric laboratories and related technologies.

Furthermore, PM Modi has encouraged Indian scientists to work on interplanetary missions, which may include a "Venus Orbiter Mission" and a "Mars Lander."

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) announced that the first test flight of Gaganyaan is scheduled for October 21, 2025, at 8 am from the First launchpad at SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota. However, it will be a short-duration mission with limited visibility from the Launch View Gallery (LVG). Registration for students and the public to witness the launch from Sriharikota will begin at 6 pm today.
