A police constable in Karnataka allegedly killed his wife at her parents' home in Bangalore Rural district. He suspected that she was having a relationship with another man. The accused, identified as 32-year-old Kishore D, traveled 230 km from Chamarajanagar town, where he was posted, to his in-laws' house near Hoskote on Monday morning. He consumed insecticide before strangling his wife to death.
The victim, Prathiba, 24, had been living at her parents' house in Kalathur village near Hoskote, where she had given birth to a son 11 days ago. Prathiba, a BE computer science graduate, had married Kishore on November 13, 2022.
According to the police report, Kishore frequently suspected Prathiba's character and monitored her call details and messages, questioning her relationships with others. They had an argument over a phone call on Sunday evening, leading to Prathiba's distress. Her mother intervened, disconnected the call, and advised her to compose herself for the sake of her newborn.
The next morning, Prathiba informed her parents that Kishore had called her 150 times overnight. Later, when Prathiba's mother went to the terrace of their house, Kishore arrived and locked the door from the inside, where Prathiba was alone with her baby. Kishore consumed insecticide and then strangled Prathiba with a dupatta, according to the police.
When Prathiba's mother came down from the terrace and knocked on the door, she received no response. After persistent knocking, Kishore opened the door after 15 minutes and reportedly confessed to the crime before fleeing the scene.
Kishore later admitted himself to a hospital in Kolar. Based on the complaint from the deceased's family, the Hoskote police registered a case against Kishore. He has been shifted to another hospital and will be taken into custody after being discharged. Prathiba's father also mentioned in his complaint that his daughter had been harassed by Kishore's mother over dowry, according to the police.
