Update on Changes in ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule

BCCI's Vice-President, Rajeev Shukla, shared important news about changes in the schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Hyderabad Cricket Association had asked BCCI about arranging back-to-back matches during the World Cup, which led to this update.

A representative from the HCA confirmed that they talked to BCCI about changing the ODI World Cup schedule. They were concerned about security in Hyderabad, as the city was supposed to host two games on consecutive days.

However, Rajeev Shukla clarified that there won't be any more changes to the World Cup schedule. Earlier this month, the schedule had been adjusted, affecting nine matches.

The ODI World Cup is set to happen in India from October 5 to November 19. The original schedule was announced in June, but it was modified after other cricket boards contacted BCCI and ICC.

The India-Pakistan match was moved from October 15 to 14, and Pakistan's game against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, initially set for October, was rescheduled to October 10. Another match, New Zealand vs. the Netherlands, was also moved to October 9 at the same venue.

Hyderabad police were worried about managing security for such big matches on consecutive days. Rajeev Shukla explained that changing the schedule involves many parties and isn't just up to BCCI.

When asked about HCA's concerns, Rajeev Shukla, who was at an event in Lucknow, stated that he's responsible for the Hyderabad venue during the World Cup. He would address any issues that arise, but changing the schedule is complex and unlikely. It requires cooperation from BCCI, ICC, teams, and others.

Because Pakistan is participating in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, security measures will be increased. This is their first time playing in India since 2016. Pakistan's team will be in Hyderabad for an extended period, engaging in warm-up matches and their group-stage game against Sri Lanka.
