Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has removed Senthil Balaji from the Council of Ministers due to allegations of abusing his position to influence an ongoing investigation against him. Chief Minister MK Stalin argues that the Governor does not have the authority to take such action and plans to challenge the decision legally.
A court in Chennai has extended the judicial custody of Senthil Balaji, who was arrested in a money laundering case, until July 12. Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on June 14. During an investigation, he was admitted to Omandurar government hospital after experiencing discomfort and chest pain.
According to a statement from Raj Bhavan, Senthil Balaji is facing multiple serious criminal charges, including accepting bribes for jobs and money laundering. The statement mentions that he has been using his position to interfere with the investigation and impede the due process of law and justice. The Governor believes that allowing him to remain in the Council of Ministers may disrupt the constitutional machinery in the state.
DMK spokesperson Sarvanan argues that the Governor lacks the legal authority to dismiss a minister and accuses him of overstepping his boundaries. However, the BJP supports the Governor's decision, stating that justice has been served and that the Governor acted appropriately in this situation.
