Samsung has joined forces with Google Cloud to introduce Gemini Pro, Google's generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology, to its smartphones. The upcoming Galaxy S24 series will be fueled by Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, enabling the creation of new text, voice, and image features.
Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing shared values in making technology more helpful and accessible. The Galaxy S24 series is set to be the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI.
Gemini has the capability to comprehend and integrate various types of information, such as text, code, images, and video. Samsung-native applications will feature the summarization function across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. Gemini Pro on Vertex AI offers essential Google Cloud features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.
Imagen 2, Google's advanced text-to-image diffusion technology, will enhance photo-editing capabilities in the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung users can experience these features in Generative Edit2 within the S24’s Gallery application.
As part of the partnership, Samsung will test Gemini Ultra, Google’s most capable model for complex tasks. The S24 series will also incorporate Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM delivered with the Android 14 operating system, designed for efficient on-device tasks.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, highlighted the significant opportunity for generative AI to enhance mobile experiences. He mentioned that with Gemini, Samsung's developers can utilize Google Cloud's infrastructure to deliver safe, reliable, and engaging generative AI applications on Samsung smartphones.
