The dosa is a popular Indian dish made from a thin, savory crepe prepared with fermented batter containing ground black lentils and rice. It's commonly served hot with coconut chutney and sambhar, offering a flavorful snack. This South Indian delicacy is enjoyed widely across India and beyond due to its versatility in fillings and flavors.
Recently, during Diwali celebrations in Belthangady, Dakshin Kannada, a Dosa Festival has gained significant attention. This festival, observed with great enthusiasm, was inaugurated by MLA Harish Poonja at the Belthangady bus stand. He emphasized the significance of dosa as a staple food during Diwali for those in the Tulu Nadu region.
The fourth annual Dosa Festival, organized by the BJP Yuva Morcha under Harish Poonja's leadership, drew massive crowds. While around 60,000 people attended last year, this year's festival saw an impressive turnout of around one lakh attendees. The MLA praised the festival's role in preserving cultural traditions and highlighted the public celebration of Diwali for the fourth consecutive year.
The BJP Yuva Morcha of Belthangady Vidhansabha Constituency has been hosting the dosa festival for four years. This year's event stood out as approximately 70,000 dosas were prepared using 15 quintals of rice, all distributed to the public for free.
Attendees enjoyed various dosa types throughout the day, accompanied by sweet avalakki, uddina dosa, bele saaru, and gatti chutney. Organizers efficiently managed the large crowd, ensuring everyone could partake in the festival's dosa offerings. Additionally, Diwali celebrations included the revered tradition of worshipping cows, marking the occasion with fervor and enthusiasm.
