The last extension for linking PAN and Aadhaar was announced in April 2023, allowing PAN card holders to link their PAN and Aadhaar cards until June 30.
Since today is the last day, don't wait for any more extensions. Visit the Income Tax e-filing website and complete the linking process quickly. You can also check the PAN-Aadhaar link status on the website.
It's important to note that if you fail to link your PAN and Aadhaar by today, your PAN card will become inoperative from tomorrow, July 1, 2023.
When PAN becomes inoperative, you won't be able to use or mention your PAN for any purposes. You will also be subject to consequences under the Income Tax Act for this failure.
Some of the consequences include:
- Inability to receive tax refunds.
- No interest will be payable on the refund once your PAN becomes inoperative until you make it operative again by linking it with Aadhaar.
- Higher tax deduction (TDS) rates as per Income Tax rules.
- Higher tax collection at source (TCS) rates as per section 206CC.
However, you can make your PAN operative again by linking it with Aadhaar and paying a fee of Rs 1000.
