Rohit Sharma Sparks T20I Retirement Speculations, Considers USA World Cup Trip
Since the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, neither Rohit Sharma nor Virat Kohli has played for India in T20 matches.
Since the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, neither Rohit Sharma nor Virat Kohli has played for India in T20 matches. Instead, Hardik Pandya has informally taken on the role of the captain. There hasn't been any official statement from the BCCI about the future of these two players in T20Is, but there have been reports suggesting that the team management has moved on from them.
While the focus is currently on the upcoming ODI World Cup, India seems to have started preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup with the West Indies tour. Rohit and Kohli have not been part of the ongoing five-match T20I series in the Caribbean, and instead, young players are getting a chance to play.
Recently, a video clip emerged of Rohit speaking at an event in the USA, where he talked about the next year's T20 World Cup. The next edition of the tournament will be jointly hosted by West Indies and the USA. Rohit expressed excitement about the World Cup happening in that part of the world and hinted at looking forward to it.
Though he hasn't explicitly mentioned if he hopes to be part of the India squad for the tournament, Rohit has been part of all eight editions of the T20 World Cup since its inception in 2007, when India won the inaugural championship in South Africa.
