The district secretaries of AIADMK passed a resolution against K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, accusing him of intentionally tarnishing the reputation of Jayalalithaa, a revered leader. In response, K Palaniswami, the AIADMK general secretary and former CM, criticized Annamalai's remark as irresponsible and immature. This is the first time AIADMK has condemned Annamalai in such strong terms and passed a resolution against him. The resolution highlighted that national leaders, including A B Vajpayee, L K Advani, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had respected Jayalalithaa and held discussions with her on various issues.
Annamalai responded to the resolution, stating that it is his way of doing politics and mentioned that he had heard about the resolution against him. He refrained from criticizing those who spoke against him and emphasized that corruption is the biggest issue in Tamil Nadu. He expressed his goal of transforming Tamil Nadu into a corruption-free state.
Annamalai further asserted that he understands the principles of alliance dharma (ethical code in alliances) and clarified that his remarks were based on the political history of Tamil Nadu. He mentioned that he is open to apologizing if his statements were proven wrong but highlighted the importance of speaking according to his conscience and not just catering to the desires of alliance partners.
He drew attention to ongoing raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a sitting minister's chamber in the Tamil Nadu government, pointing out the prevalence of corruption in the state. Annamalai expressed his desire to bring about a change in politics where corruption is rampant.
