A week after the global unveiling, one of the Triumph 400 bikes has now been launched in India. The Triumph Speed 400 is available at a price of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Scrambler 400 X will be launched in India at a later date.
The Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are equipped with a liquid-cooled, 398cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 40hp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. These bikes feature the TR-series engine and come with a 6-speed gearbox. The power output is similar to the KTM 390 bikes, but the Triumph models reach their peak power earlier in the rev range.
The design of both the Speed and Scrambler bikes draws inspiration from larger models in the Triumph lineup. Despite their affordable price, the bikes have a premium fit and finish. They are equipped with a digi-analogue display and can be fitted with heated grips, which is a rare feature in this category.
The Speed 400 comes with 17-inch alloy rims and MRF Steel Brace tires. The Scrambler 400 X features 19/17-inch alloy rims and dual-purpose MRF Zapper Kurve tires. The international press shots showcased premium Metzeler or Pirelli tires, but it is yet to be confirmed which tires will be used in customer bikes.
With a price of Rs 2.33 lakh, the Triumph Speed 400 is priced competitively against its rivals such as the KTM 390 Duke (Rs 2.97 lakh), BMW G 310 R (Rs 2.85 lakh), and RE Interceptor 650 (Rs 3.03 lakh – Rs 3.31 lakh).
Both bikes come with a 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty and require servicing every 16,000 km. The Speed 400 will be available for purchase from late July, while the Scrambler 400 X will be launched in October.
