Mason Mount's £60m Move to Man Utd: Erik ten Hag Successfully Attracts Chelsea's Transfer Target

England midfielder Mason Mount has officially transferred from Chelsea to Manchester United for a fee of £60 million ($76 million). Mount underwent a medical examination and signed a five-year contract with United, which includes the option for an additional year. The transfer deal involves an initial payment of £55 million, with an extra £5 million dependent on Mount winning the Premier League or Champions League multiple times.

United manager Erik ten Hag had identified Mount as his primary target for the summer transfer window, considering him an ideal fit for the team's tactical system. Although Chelsea attempted to extend Mount's contract, they were unable to reach a final agreement. Mount was drawn to Ten Hag's vision for his future at Old Trafford, leading him to accept the new challenge away from Stamford Bridge.

Mount expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United, acknowledging the team's strong squad and their drive to win major trophies. He praised the progress made under Ten Hag and expressed his ambition to contribute to the team's success. United's football director, John Murtough, commended Mount's intelligence, technical abilities, and his potential to improve the players around him. He highlighted Mount's game intelligence and tactical awareness as valuable assets to the squad.

The transfer marks Mount's departure from Chelsea after a long association with the club. He joined Chelsea's academy in 2005 and made his way up to the senior squad in 2017. During his time at Chelsea, he appeared in 195 games across various competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists. Mount won several trophies with Chelsea, including the Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Mount will be part of United's pre-season preparations, including a tour of the United States. His competitive debut for the club is expected to take place in the Premier League opener against Wolves on August 14, 2023.
