The MLC 2023 tournament will begin on Thursday in Texas and North Carolina, USA. It features six teams competing for the championship in the first season.
The MLC matches follow the Twenty20 (T20) format and will commence on July 14 in India. All the matches will be available for live streaming in India.
The tournament consists of 19 T20 matches, including 15 in a round-robin format. These matches will be played over 18 days at the newly-constructed Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas and Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina.
The initial eight matches will take place in Texas, followed by the series moving to North Carolina. The playoffs and the MLC final will be held in Texas.
During the league phase, each team will play against one another once. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, which include qualifier and eliminator matches similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) format. The MLC final will be held on July 30.
Out of the six teams, four are owned by IPL franchises, namely MI New York (Mumbai Indians), Texas Super Kings (Chennai Super Kings), LA Knight Riders (Kolkata Knight Riders), and the Seattle Orcas (Delhi Capitals). The other two teams are San Francisco Unicorns and Washington Freedom.
Each team will consist of 16-19 players, including at least one under-23 domestic rookie player. Each squad is allowed to have nine international players, but only a maximum of six of them can play in a single match.
The MLC 2023 will witness the participation of several renowned international cricketers, such as Rashid Khan, Nicholas Pooran, Shadab Khan, Jason Roy, Andre Russell, Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Finch, Faf Du Plessis, David Miller, and Dwayne Bravo, among others.
