IIT Delhi Expands Globally, Opening Campus in Abu Dhabi

In a recent event, India's Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge signed an agreement. The agreement was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on July 15.

This agreement paves the way for the establishment of an IIT campus in Abu Dhabi, which will be the second international campus for the institute. IIT Madras has also signed an agreement to open a campus in Zanzibar.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his enthusiasm for the IIT Delhi campus in the UAE, highlighting its significance in strengthening the friendship between India and the UAE.

IIT Delhi has already begun reaching out to students in the UAE through various programs. The institute plans to offer short courses and executive programs for industries in the near future. Starting from 2024, IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will also provide degree programs.

The courses offered at the campus will cover a wide range of subjects, including energy and sustainability, artificial intelligence, computer science and engineering, healthcare, mathematics and computing, as well as other engineering, science, and humanities disciplines.

The decision to establish an IIT campus in the UAE was announced in August 2022. It was part of a vision statement jointly issued by both countries in February 2022.

IIT Delhi was chosen by the government to implement this proposal because the institute had previously shown interest in setting up campuses in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

According to IIT Delhi, the Abu Dhabi campus will collaborate with institutions such as Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Technology Innovation Institute, and Hub71.

Through these collaborations, the institute aims to contribute to the academic, research, and innovation ecosystem in Abu Dhabi. The goal is to offer complementary programs, conduct cutting-edge research, and support the local startup ecosystem.

The Abu Dhabi campus is expected to launch its academic programs in 2024, offering Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees.
