Google's QR Code Scanning Enhancement

If you have an Android phone and tried to scan a QR code that was far away, you might have faced difficulties even with the zoom feature. But now, Google is working on a new feature that will make scanning QR codes from a distance easier.

With this new feature, Google's camera will automatically zoom in on QR codes when it detects them, allowing you to scan codes for payments and information effortlessly. The feature is part of the latest Google API available to developers and works with Google's code scanner in various apps.

Google ensures user privacy by providing a complete scanning solution without requiring apps to request camera permissions. This system is already included in Google Play services on your devices, so it won't increase app size.

The feature may be available on devices running Android 13 or later, as the QR code scanner in Android 13 uses the same ML Kit's Barcode Scanning library. However, it's uncertain when exactly this feature will be available or how it will depend on camera quality. Nonetheless, if it does become available, it will significantly simplify QR code scanning for users, especially in markets like India, where QR codes are frequently used for payments.
