Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy died at the age of 79 early on Tuesday. He passed away in a private hospital in Bengaluru at 4:25 am while receiving treatment for cancer. As a sign of respect, the Kerala government has declared Tuesday as a public holiday and announced two days of mourning.

Leaders from different political parties have expressed their condolences upon Chandy's death. Prominent Congress members like Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, and Shashi Tharoor have shared their sympathies. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal visited the Chinmaya Mission Hospital in Bengaluru, where Chandy passed away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow via a tweet, recognizing Chandy as a humble and dedicated leader who dedicated his life to public service and the progress of Kerala. Modi also recalled his interactions with Chandy during their respective tenures as Chief Ministers and later in Delhi. He extended his thoughts and prayers to Chandy's family and supporters during this mournful time.
