XL Bully Dogs Sold Cheap in UK After Rishi Sunak's Clampdown
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently announced a ban on American XL bully dog breeds due to a series of serious attacks.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently announced a ban on American XL bully dog breeds due to a series of serious attacks. This new law will take effect on December 31, making it illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon, or allow these dogs to roam freely.
As a result of the impending ban, there has been a surge in people trying to sell these dogs, with over 700 such dogs listed on a single website. Some are even being offered for less than £25 (about Rs 2000).
One concerning case during the investigation involved a 14-month-old XL Bully dog listed for sale at just £25. Another woman in Essex was selling her dog for £75, noting improvements in its health. More XL Bully dogs were found for sale in various regions, with prices ranging from £75 to £100.
Experts have expressed concerns about the ban's enforcement, as it may be challenging for authorities to identify these dogs and enforce the law effectively.
The UK Government has provided guidance for XL Bully dog owners. They must apply for a Certificate of Exemption by January 31, 2024, at a cost of £92.40. Neutering is required for dogs under one year old by the end of 2024, while older dogs must be neutered by June 30, 2024. The law also requires XL Bully dogs to be muzzled and leashed in public.
