Review of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2': Belly's Heartbreak and Happiness

A timid and glasses-wearing girl suddenly becomes attractive and catches the attention of boys. Two of her friends compete for her affection. This is the premise of the teen drama series "The Summer I Turned Pretty" on Amazon Prime Video. In the first season, the protagonist, Belly, spends the summer at a beach house with her mother's best friend and her two sons, Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly finds herself torn between the two brothers while also navigating new friendships. The season ends with Belly caught in a love triangle at her debutante ball.

In the second season, Belly is back home after the debutante ball. Things have changed, and the show uses flashbacks to reveal what happened in the months since the ball. We learn about Susannah's battle with cancer and Belly's romantic choice between Jeremiah and Conrad. Belly is trying to adjust to the new reality but finds herself drawn back to Cousins, where she reconnects with her past. The flashbacks gradually unveil the reasons behind the present situation.

Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah face a new problem in Cousins, which brings them together with Belly's brother Steven and her friend Taylor. They are determined to confront the issue as a team. While the first season focused on Belly finding love, the second season explores her grief over losing it and realizing that childhood dreams don't always bring happiness.

If you enjoyed the first season, it's worth watching the second season to find out who Belly ends up with and to get answers to other lingering questions. If you're a fan of romantic comedies and teen/high school dramas, you won't be disappointed. The first three episodes of the eight-episode season will be available on July 14 on Amazon Prime Video, with the remaining episodes releasing on subsequent Fridays.
