Opposition parties have accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of using communal statements as a strategy to divert attention from important issues. The CM's recent remark about the Miya community, blaming them for high vegetable prices, has received strong criticism. Sarma suggested that if Assamese vendors sold vegetables instead of Miya vendors, the prices wouldn't be inflated. His comments have sparked outrage, with AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal stating that they create a communal divide and hold Sarma responsible for any resulting incidents. Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Borah alleged collusion between the BJP and AIUDF, claiming they are playing the "communal card" for political gain ahead of the upcoming elections. Akhil Gogoi, president of Raijor Dal and MLA, accused Sarma of using communal politics to divert attention from issues like the draft delimitation proposal, failed promises, and internal conflicts within the BJP. Hemanta Phukan, spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party, criticized the BJP for resorting to communal politics to hide their failures and urged the government to focus on development instead.
