In Mumbai, heavy rains caused the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, to order the early closure of government offices in the city and nearby areas. This decision was made because the heavy rains caused delays in local trains, and the government wanted to ensure that employees could reach home on time.
The heavy rainfall also affected the movement of trains on both the Central and Western railway lines. Some trains on the Central Line could only operate up to certain stations due to issues like point failure and flooding in specific sections. Similarly, trains on the Western railway line experienced disruptions because of the continuous heavy downpour over the past two days.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an 'orange alert' for Mumbai and the neighboring regions on July 19, expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall. The alert was issued due to the development of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which would strengthen the offshore monsoon trough near Maharashtra. This monsoon revival was predicted to impact Mumbai and parts of the Konkan region.
The IMD also issued 'orange alerts' for various districts of Maharashtra, including Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, and Satara. Additionally, a 'yellow alert' was given for Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nasik, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Dhule, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra.
