Forecast: Light Rains in Delhi, Ongoing Heatwave in UP and Bihar
In Northwest India, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places over the next five days.
Delhi is expected to experience relief from the intense heat in the coming days with the prediction of light rains and thundershowers due to the influence of Cyclone 'Biparjoy' in the Arabian Sea. The cyclonic storm made landfall on the Gujarat coast on Thursday evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Skymet Weather, a private forecasting agency, had earlier mentioned that Delhi would receive light rains from Cyclone Biparjoy. The city can expect these light rains or thundershowers along with gusty winds on June 18 and 19.
Meanwhile, North and East India are likely to continue experiencing a heatwave for the next five days, while heavy rainfall will persist in most parts of northwest India due to the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy.
In Northeast India, the IMD's latest bulletin predicts widespread light to very heavy rainfall over the region for the next five days. Arunachal Pradesh may experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall until tomorrow, while Assam and Meghalaya may face it until Saturday.
For East India, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands can expect light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next five days. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during this period.
In Northwest India, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated places over the next five days. Uttarakhand may also experience thundersqualls and hailstorms on June 18 and 19.
Southwest Rajasthan is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on June 16 and 17. Southeast Rajasthan may experience similar conditions on June 17 and 18. On June 18, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in southwest Rajasthan, while southeast Rajasthan may experience it on June 16 and 19.
No significant weather changes are expected in the rest of the country during the next five days.
The IMD has issued a heatwave warning, stating that heatwave conditions will persist in isolated pockets of Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh over the next five days. Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar may also experience heatwave conditions for the next four days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, southeast Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh are expected to have heatwave conditions for the next three and two days, respectively.
Isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh are likely to have warm night conditions until tomorrow.
Hot and humid conditions are expected in Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema over the next two days.
