Don 3 Casting Dilemma: SRK's Rejection Forces Farhan Akhtar's Decision
Ranveer Singh has been chosen as the new lead for Don 3.
Ranveer Singh has been chosen as the new lead for Don 3. Farhan Akhtar, the director, made an announcement on his social media accounts that Ranveer would be taking over the role from Shah Rukh Khan in the upcoming film. It seems that Shah Rukh Khan decided not to continue with the Don franchise, stating that he felt he had given his all to the character in the previous Don movies, released in 2006 and 2011.
According to a source, Farhan Akhtar had to consider finding a different actor for the role because Shah Rukh Khan was firm in his decision not to participate in another Don film. Although Farhan was aware that fans might struggle to accept a new Don, Shah Rukh Khan argued that even James Bond's character has undergone changes over time.
Ranveer Singh played an active role in lobbying for his own casting. He pursued Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani to give him the opportunity. Earlier discussions between Farhan and Shah Rukh about Don 3 took place this year, but Shah Rukh wasn't interested in returning to the franchise. It was reported that Shah Rukh wants to focus on more universal and commercial films for the next few years.
Farhan Akhtar confirmed Shah Rukh Khan's departure from the franchise and introduced Ranveer Singh as the new lead. He expressed excitement about taking the Don legacy forward with Ranveer's talent and versatility. The new era of Don is set to begin in 2025 and is expected to be a reboot of the series.
