Delhi Court Calls Bajrang Punia in Defamation Case

A Delhi court has asked wrestler Bajrang Punia to appear on September 6 in a criminal defamation case filed by wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya. The court believes that the elements of defamation are evident based on the complaint, supporting documents, and pre-summoning evidence. It seems that the statements made during a press conference held on May 10 at Jantar Mantar were malicious and not made in good faith. The court has summoned Bajrang Punia under Section 499 and Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deal with criminal defamation.

The complaint alleged that Punia and other wrestlers made defamatory remarks against Dahiya during the protest at Jantar Mantar against the alleged sexual harassment of certain women wrestlers by the outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
