On Friday, ISRO announced that the Chandrayaan-3 rover named 'Pragyan' has successfully moved about eight meters on the Moon's surface. Additionally, its specialized equipment has been activated.
ISRO shared that all the planned movements of the rover have been confirmed, and it has indeed traveled around eight meters. The scientific instruments on the rover, known as LIBS and APXS, are now functioning.
Furthermore, ISRO stated that all the instruments on the propulsion module, lander module, and rover are working as expected.
The Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer (APXS) has the task of identifying the chemical and mineral makeup of the lunar surface.
The Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) aims to analyze the elements present in the lunar soil and rocks around the landing area, including magnesium, aluminum, silicon, potassium, calcium, titanium, and iron.
On Thursday, ISRO also informed that the Lander's instruments ILSA and RAMBHA, along with ChaSTE, have been activated.
ILSA's role is to monitor seismic activities near the landing zone, while RAMBHA will study the plasma environment around the Moon.
Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) is designed to measure the Moon's surface temperature properties.
India achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday by successfully landing its third unmanned Moon mission's lander module. This made India the fourth nation to achieve such a feat and the first to land at the unexplored south pole of the Moon.
