The Chandrayaan-3 mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 2.35 PM IST on Thursday, July 14.
If ISRO successfully accomplishes this mission, India will join a select group of only three other countries—the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China—that have achieved a gentle landing on the Moon. The United States and the Soviet Union faced several spacecraft crashes before their successful landings on the Moon. China, on the other hand, became the first country to succeed on its initial attempt with the Chang'e-3 mission in 2013.
The spacecraft has successfully lifted off from Earth and is currently orbiting the planet as it begins its journey towards the Moon. Various critical events are planned for the mission, including maneuvers near Earth, insertion into the lunar orbit, separation of the lander, a series of deboost maneuvers, and a power descent phase for a gentle landing. P. Veeramuthuvel, the project director of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, provided this information.
