The motorsport community is grieving the loss of 18-year-old Dutch racing driver Dilano Van 't Hoff. He tragically lost his life during Race 2 of the Formula Regional European Championship at Spa-Francorchamps. This race circuit has been a part of Formula 1 for many years, and the Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on July 30th this year.
The Royal Automobile Club of Belgium released a statement expressing their condolences to Dilano Van 't Hoff's family, team, and friends. They were joined by the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, SRO Motorsports Group, Alpine, and ACI in offering their sincerest sympathies.
Fellow Dutchman and double Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen tweeted his sadness and sent his condolences to Dilano's family and loved ones. As a mark of respect, all start-line entertainment plans for the upcoming Spa 24 Hours race weekend have been canceled, and a minute of silence will be observed before the race begins.
Organizers of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa expressed their devastation and extended their deepest condolences to Dilano van 't Hoff's family, friends, and MP Motorsport. They confirmed that the accident occurred during the morning race and stated that everyone associated with the event is deeply affected.
Eyewitness reports from Spa mentioned poor visibility and treacherous conditions. Broadcast footage captured Tim Tramnitz spinning out of second place at Raidillon, while Dilano Van 't Hoff spun and was struck at high speed by Adam Fitzgerald at the start of the Kemmel Straight. This incident bears similarities to the one that claimed the life of Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert during the 2019 Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
Both the Formula Regional and Spa-Francorchamps websites were offline following the news of the tragic accident. Dilano Van 't Hoff was in his second full season racing in Formula Regional. Our team at GRANDPRIX247 joins the motorsport community in offering our deepest condolences to the Van 't Hoff family, friends, teammates, and colleagues during this incredibly sad time
