Odisha Girl's Remarkable UPSC Rank: Achieving AIR 67 in 2022 Without Coaching

Succeeding in the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam is a tough achievement that usually requires lots of hard work and money. This can discourage talented people from disadvantaged backgrounds who should have equal chances. Many UPSC hopefuls get professional coaching, but there are exceptions like Kasturi Panda, an IAS officer from Odisha. She got All India Rank 67 in her second UPSC attempt without any coaching, which is a motivating example of determination and self-study.

Kasturi Panda is from Odisha and has a B.Tech degree from NIT Rourkela. She achieved this incredible feat last year by scoring 1006 marks, with an impressive 822 marks in the written exam, to qualify for the Civil Services Exam. In her first try, she reached the interview round but didn't make it. However, she didn't give up and worked hard on her weaknesses, improved her skills, and on her second attempt, she successfully passed the UPSC exam.

Kasturi suggests that UPSC candidates should use a smart study method, covering the basics extensively from Class IX to Class XII. She studied at home, focusing on daily practice, writing, and independent study. She aimed to answer 90-94 questions in two hours to get a score of 100 or more, solving many practice papers at home to reach that goal.

In the 2022 attempt, there were only about thirty full-length exams available, and she also revised her previous practice tests. In each attempt, she performed well and exceeded the required marks.
